Hall Farm Barns

North York Moors National Park Design Awards 2018 – Best conversion.

Our award winning project, Hall Farm is a range of 18th Century brick barns adjoining a Grade II listed stone farmhouse on the outskirts of a conservation village in the North York Moors National Park.

The awards recognise “the most innovative and distinctive new developments completed within the North York Moors over the past five years”.

The challenge for a build of this type was to maintain the architectural character and integrity of the agricultural buildings and the cultural heritage of the farmhouse, while creating a beautiful and modern family home. We achieved this by creating a new building linking the existing barns and forming the heart of the home where the kitchen and family room are located.

Early discussions with planners and conservation offices were crucial to the success of the project.

“Converting the out-buildings into our family home has been a long-held dream. To receive this award from the North York Moors National Park, highlights how Summerhouse and the contractors were able to maintain the integrity of the buildings’ architectural character. Sarah passed away earlier this year and would have been very proud that our home has received this respected award.”
